CALAI - THI's Latin America Center

As part of its internationalisation strategy, THI places particular emphasis on the Latin American region. The Latin America Centre (CALAI), which forms part of the International Office, coordinates all activities within and with the region.

Originally launched as the AWARE project to initiate research collaborations with Brazilian partners, particularly in the automotive sector, the THI’s Latin America Centre has continued to develop and is now an extensive centre of excellence for cooperation with Latin America.

CALAI sees itself as a bridge between the Technical University of Ingolstadt and Latin America. It creates an academic platform for cooperation and the sustainable exchange of knowledge and ideas.

With regional expertise, linguistic competence and a personal passion for Latin America, we support the strategic internationalisation of THI and open doors for students, researchers and lecturers.

We work closely with our partners and promote intercultural understanding through jointly initiated exchange programmes and collaborative projects.

We are convinced of the added value of cooperation with Latin America: that is why we are strengthening mobility to and from the region and continuously expanding long-term partnerships.

Current projects

LUMINAi

LUMINAi is a DAAD-funded project that brings international AI talent from Latin America to Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences, where they receive academic and professional training and are specifically prepared for careers in research, industry and start-ups in Germany.

enGlobe_connect

The enGlobe_connect project is part of the HAW.International initiative run by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). Its aim is to further develop THI’s internationalisation strategy in a sustainable manner, with a particular focus on Latin America.

enGlobe_connect supports students and researchers during stays abroad whilst strengthening cooperation with partner universities and companies in Colombia and Mexico. The programme is centred on three pillars: study, practical application and research transfer.

BRIDGES

This German-Brazilian project, funded by the BMFTR, aims to contribute to solving global climate problems through research on solar energy, electromobility, second-life batteries, and green hydrogen. Under the joint leadership of the project partners - Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences (THI), the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) in Brazil, and the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) - it aims to establish an interactive research network and a joint laboratory.

sustainED

In collaboration with its partners at the Brazilian universities UFSC, UFPR and PUCPR, THI is developing modular training and continuing professional development programmes on sustainability for management and engineering. The aim is to integrate sustainability knowledge across teaching, research and university management in the long term, and to equip students, as well as researchers and university staff, with the necessary basic understanding of sustainability so that they can contribute to the transformation required for more sustainable development. The project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
