Foresight competences - shaping the future from a competence perspective

Foresight Competences – applying a competences’ perspective on the shaping of futures

The project “Foresight Competences” intends to combine the field of futures studies and strategic foresight with a perspective on developing an individual’s competences.

Especially in times of crisis and transformation, there is a demand for approaches that view the future in the plural and as a space of diverse possibilities. However, not only (large) institutions and organizations that can deploy extensive and resource-rich foresight methods need guidance in decision-making under uncertainty. Foresight - as an educated long-term view - can also be understood as a universal human ability and therefore be relevant for every individual.

Building on existing concepts of foresight at the individual level (such as Futures Literacy, Futures Consciousness, and Futures Capacity), the “Foresight Competences” project aims to define and measure the competences that underlie the effective shaping of futures. To achieve this, the interdisciplinary project team combines foresight expertise with specialized knowledge from the field of adult education to develop a prototype for assessing foresight competences.

The project is held in cooperation with and supported by Zentaro Consulting GmbH.
