CARISSMA Research Building

The flagship of THI’s mobility research is the CARISSMA research building, which, together with the institute of the same name, serves as the national centre of excellence for vehicle safety. CARISSMA’s research focus areas include integral vehicle safety and accident prevention, safe automated driving, and simulation-based testing and development methods for safe (electric) driving. To cover this broad spectrum, CARISSMA has three institutes of its own: the CARISSMA Institute of Automated Driving (C-IAD), the CARISSMA Institute of Safety in Future Mobility (C-ISAFE) and the CARISSMA Institute of Electric, Connected and Secure Mobility (C-ECOS).

AImotion Bavaria

Through the Institute AImotion Bavaria, THI acts as a state-wide AI mobility hub within the Bavarian State Government’s High-Tech Agenda for Bavaria. Here, research focuses on the AI-based mobility of the future, including in the fields of autonomous driving and unmanned flight.

Technology Transfer Center (TTZ) for Unmanned Flight Systems

Research at the Technology Transfer Center Unmanned Flight Systems focuses on civil and military unmanned aviation. Here, the scientific expertise of the Bavarian AI mobility hub AImotion Bavaria is combined with the forward-looking fields of unmanned flight and urban air mobility.

Institute of Innovative Mobility (IIMo)

The Institute for Innovative Mobility focuses primarily on resource-efficient propulsion systems in connection with the development of adaptive battery systems. It conducts research into application-driven methods for the development, production and operation of electric vehicles.

Fraunhofer Application Center for ‘Connected Mobility and Infrastructure’

The Fraunhofer Application Center for “Connected Mobility and Infrastructure”, which is based at THI as an affiliated institute, focuses on research into the safety of automated and cooperative driving.
